"Mills Mill" is a historic textile mill located in Greenville, South Carolina. It was built in 1897 by the wealthy businessman and philanthropist Otis Mills and it was one of the largest mills in the region. The mill was run by hydroelectric power from the Reedy River, which was the first of its kind in the South.
During its peak years, the mill housed over 4,000 employees who worked on producing textiles such as cotton sheeting, towels, and denim for companies like Levi's, Wrangler and Fruit of the Loom. The mill complex consisted of several buildings including a factory, a company store, a hospital, and living quarters for the workers.
Mills Mill was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 and it underwent a major restoration in the 1990s, which transformed the site into modern office space. Today, the mill is used for commercial purposes and it serves as an important reminder of the textile industry's vital role in South Carolina's history.
